A lookup whose result nobody saved is a lookup you will pay for again, and cannot cite when somebody asks what you knew.

By keeping the response. An external check that informed a decision is part of the file: what was asked, what came back, when. Otherwize the decision is defensible only as far as somebody’s memory of a screen they saw once.

How an external check works

The enquiry is scoped
Only the data needed for the check leaves the platform. An enrichment lookup is not an excuse to ship a claim file to a vendor.

The response is recorded
Result and timestamp against the claim or party, so what was known and when is part of the record.

Overrides are captured
Where a screening result is overridden — a sanctions false positive, for instance — the override and its reason are recorded on the party.

Credentials stay hidden
Provider credentials follow the same rule as every integration secret: never returned to a screen once saved.

We record faithfully what a provider returned. We do not vouch for it, and neither should a platform that resells it silently.
We do not validate provider data
A wrong answer from a data vendor is recorded as what they said. Judging its reliability is your decision and your provider relationship.
Lookups cost money
External calls are billable by the provider. Where a check runs automatically, the cost is a configuration decision you should make deliberately.
Outbound means disclosure
Any external check discloses something. We keep it minimal and record it; you should still know which lanes are enabled.
